International Conference on
Memory Technology and Design

ICMTD'05

We take great pleasure in welcoming you to the very first International Conference on Memory Technology and Design ICMTD'05, which is held from 21 to 24 of May 2005 on the Peninsula of Giens on the Mediterranean coast of France.

This conference, organized by the Provence Materials and Microelectronics Laboratory L2MP, provides an international forum for presentation and discussion on recent development on Memory Technology and Design. All aspects of memory devices, circuits, processing technologies, materials and other related research are within the scope of the conference. These three days of presentations, in oral and poster sessions, provide extensive opportunities for technical information exchange. Furthermore we expect that the conference setting and social events will stimulate informal communication among participants.

Sixty-six papers were selected for this first edition, 35 for oral presentation and 31 for poster presentation. In addition 7 invited speakers will present a large variety of subjects from DRAM cells to Polymer Memories:
  • Pierre FAZAN - Innovative Silicon: DRAM cell trends
  • William GALLAGHER - IBM: Recent advances in MRAM technology field-effect transistors
  • Johan HENDRICKX - Philips Semiconductors: Embedded memory design: challenge or nightmare
  • Franz HOFMANN - Infineon Technology: NVM based on FinFet device structures
  • Veli LIPPONEN - Nokia: Memories: status and trends
  • Jean-Pierre NOZIERES - SPINTEC: Thermo-magnetic MRAM
  • Agostino PIROVANO - STMicroelectronics: Alternatives to Conventional Non-Volatile Memory
To complete these oral and poster presentations, we invite you to participate in:
  • an evening lecture about "System-in-Package advances for future mainstream memory technologies" animated by Lluis PARIS from ATMOS Corporation.
  • a panel discussion on "Does a universal memory make sense? " moderated by Richard GORDON from Gartner Dataquest.
  • a round table to conclude the two sessions dedicated to MRAM memory.
  • an evening lecture about "High-mobility solution-processed polymer ferroelectrics" given by Ronald NABER from Groningen University
  • a lecture, opening the gala dinner, given by Prof. Bernard SOUMIREU from the University of Provence on mechanisms of Human Memory
We are confident that this conference will be an exciting event for each attendee and we would like to thank all participants to the conference. Your presence demonstrates the large interest in the area of memory technology.
Furthermore, we would like to express our gratitude to the Scientific/Technical committee for their review of contributed papers and to our sponsors for their financial and technical support.

Finally we would like to thank all those who have contributed to the organisation and implementation of the ICMTD'05 conference.

We hope you will enjoy
ICMTD'05 as much as we have enjoyed organizing it,
